|Lukhanyo Leon-Mark Mlandu aka Metabolism
Born in the Eastern Cape (Dimbaza then moved to Zwelitsha Zone 1 no 3216 in the mid 80s) then moved to Cape Town in 1990. Presently "dwelling in “The lands of busted drain pipes called Khayelitsha". I have been writing rhymes since 1996 in junior and in high school. My biggest challenge has been trying to perfect the art of syllable play with similes and metaphors. My most exciting gig in 2005 was when I performed at the second Druge Dialect at Vuduu Lounge were I had to awake a packed crowd.
The name Metabolism was adapted form my biology class, so I took the concept and applied it on the mental, breaking down concepts and projecting them to ears at a rapid rate. I have been through 4 crews like Skunk Squad in the mid 90's, which I then converted it to Troop Fellowship. I was then involved in Nomadic lyricists, which gave birth to Platoon Dungeon Dwellas. No progress was made so I went solo in 2003. 2005 forms a new era were I have met up with Saturn and we were hard at work on the E.P called Theatre Of Lyrical Ingenuity, which was an independent street release. Saturn, who has also been producing for roughly six years presently, has been made the sound "dope" and found it easy to work on the project. He is not only involved on beats, but he designed the cover, he's the photographer. Based in Mowbray, his home served as a hub for production for the whole album and again for the new project underway called Beverages. "My inspiration boils from emotions at any particular point and time." All my man Saturn needs is some "brew", smokes and his computer, and then it’s down to business. He is focused and dedicated on his part of the album and none of this would have happened if his major input were not inserted. With both of us having a good sense of humour, it makes the whole process of creating this project a great deal of good times because when it is time to work, then its time to work and when it is time to relax, then we both kick it by hitting the outdoors.
Saturn, born and bread in Cape Town, a producer/skater finds time to fulfil both his passions and to make time to have a few drinks at local hip-hop spots. Another member involved in this project is Dj Big Dre, who does the scratching on the album and does the research that puts together project. Now, with the album, in its completion stages, I have also been involved in another project with the likes of Konfab, Vernon Viscus and Stimulus to form Writers Block, an urban crew that was formed in 2005. Inspiration comes from all over, locally and internationally, from peers to known mc's overseas like Bigg Jus, MF Doom, Juggaknots, Saafir, Redman, Micranots, Company Flow and more.
