Vernon Joel: A Story of Love
Music has been intrinsically woven into the fabric of Vernon’s life from before he can remember. His father, an accomplished guitarist in his own right, first planted the seeds of a musical career. Vernon has fond memories of dozing off on the speakers at is dad’s gigs when he was little more than a toddler.
After watching Fame at the age of five, Vernon knew that he wanted to be a singer and dancer.
This dream would never have materialised had his mother not encouraged him from this early age, telling him to reach high and dream big; telling him that he can fly.
From the age of 6 to 13, Vernon was trained vocally and to play the piano. Dancing came later, when he joined his first dance studio in his mid-teens.
Vernon, able to express himself both visually and vocally to music, heeded the call to pursue a career as an artist in his fourth year of studies. His response has meant an incredible journey.
Music has led him to over 20 countries and numerous experiences. While every person Vernon has had the privilege to work with has a unique and special place in his heart, some notable experiences include being on the same stage with Marcus Millar and Bobby Mclean.
He toured with Miriam Makeba as a backing vocalist, and has sung to Madiba, Tokyo Sexwale and Thabo Mbeki, as well al various other local and international dignitaries.
After various offers, Vernon decided to perform in the Lion King UK as a singer and dancer, feeling that he could bring to the fore the African flavour of the production.
Now, with such a wealth of experience behind him, Vernon has had the time to refine and define himself as the recording and performance artist he is meant to be. As a man of mixed race descent, his cultural heritage lay the foundation for his future, which is now ready to be realised.
Vernon is ready to take his message, the message of unconditional love – the most powerful force in the universe – to his fellow South Africans, and the world beyond this beautiful country’s borders.
