The organic-electronic one man band from Brazil
SONIC JUNIOR is a one man musical project by Brazilian producer, percussionist and singer Juninho. Born in the state of Alagoas, he explores the boundaries of electronic music, mixing beats with organic percussion. It’s a fusion of concepts and tendencies in a brew of interaction between different musical languages and vibes.
The mission is clear: make music to make people dance until their minds lost the control over the body.
The third SONIC JUNIOR album, “Pra Fazer o Mundo Girar” (To make the world goes around; Mundo Perfeito Records) was released in 2005 and was elected by Brazilian musical press one of the most important independent albuns of the year. The album, wich mix instrumental musics with vocal songs, brings to the surface his urban experiences in the city of São Paulo, one of the biggests in the world, where he lives nowadays, putting it together with his universal influences, from eletronica to samba; from old school funk to jamaican dub.
In Europe, SONIC JUNIOR represented Brazil in french event “Fête de la Musique”, in Paris, and played live at Porto, in Portugal. In Brasil, SONIC JUNIOR is a constant presence at the most important festivals all over the country.
SONIC JUNIOR’s songs are part of compilations in Brazil and Europe, such as “Brazilounge”, and part of the soundtrack from Brazilian director Cacá Diegues’ film “Deus é Brasileiro”. In 2004 and 2005 two videoclips from SONIC JUNIOR’s songs (A Casa da Madame and Pulsar) runned for Best Electronic Video at MTV Brazil Musical Awards.
On stage, Juninho controls a Groovebox, sings, plays the drums, djembe and other percussive instruments, incorporating by the SONIC JUNIOR organo-electronic vibrations.
