 For the past year, Cape Town finest musicians have been hard at work producing an album of divine proportions. Their music influences are acid jazz, trip hop, lounge & dub we are called Magic Carpet Ride
The band consists of:
RJ Benjamin (vocalist) - By 25 he was fast becoming a prolific artist and songwriter working with some of the top artists in the land. He has worked as a songwriter for artists such as Danny K, Unathi and Lira and produced for up and coming artists like Gift Gwe and superstars like Kabelo. To date he has featured on tracks by musicians including house giants DJ Cleo and Soul Candi. “I actually started my career singing over house tracks in night clubs,” he confesses. He has also featured on various hits like the Dent & Massive track, When Doves Cry as well as Slikour’s rap song, Dreamer.
Melanie Scholtz (vocalist) Winner of the 2010 Standard bank Jazz Vocalist award. She has performed not only at The Cape Town International Jazz festival but has had regular tours internationally through Europe performing at various Jazz festivals and Jazz Clubs.
Craig De Sousa - (producer & digital drummer) SA’s well-known Top House DJ & Producer. You have seen him playing at the International Pro 20 Cricket games, IPL, Top Clubs around South Africa as well as France, Russia, Mauritius, Dubai and a band member of Iridium Project.
Nick Matthews – (producer & digital drummer). He is no stranger is the entertainment industry. With his flare for the interesting sounds he is involved in Gazella, was a member of Coda and is very much apart of Iridium Project. In fact Craig and Nick are the core members of Iridium Project and they produce all the music for both bands.
Ricardo Morretti – Musical genius on (keyboard, percussion and Hang). Original member of MoodPhase5ive, Godessa and Iridium Project.
Gorm Helfjord - (guitarist) - He has performed with SA finest Melanie Scholtz, Sibongile Khumalo, Golliwog, PJ powers, Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, Strataphonic, Jazzatack, Janine Neethling, Vicky Sampson, Charl Johan Lingenfelder,
Trygve Seim, Sichia, Judith Sephuma, Tina Schouw, Tucan Tucan, Ivan Mazuze just to name a few.
Dan Shout - (saxophonist) - Dan Shout is a freelance saxophonist based in Cape Town. Dan has held the position of soprano and alto saxophonist and keyboard player in the Johnny Clegg Band since 2006 and has performed abroad in Europe, Scandinavia, North America, North Africa, the Middle East, Seychelles and the French West Indies.
