 They are young and they are hotter than hell! The punk rock trio The Nutcutters has demonstrated with their debut album “Smashin’ Stereo” that they are one of the most promising bands in Switzerland.
The genesis of The Nutcutters is told quickly: Chris, the guitarist, and Normen, the drummer, met each other at the buffet on a school party and they immediately found out that they not only liked beer but also the same kind of rock music or to be precise, the loud, dirty Californian style punk rock. After a further beer, they founded the band with its name The Nutcutters. The only things that were missing but most important were songs and a singer. However, they were lucky to find Jake, a guy from the Philippine who did not even spoke German when he first turned up in their practice room but he had a bass with him and an incredible voice. The legend says that the songs of their Fun-Punk-EP “Bad Influences” were written within a night and recorded the day after.
Three years later and after countless of gigs, their debut album “Smashin’ Stereo” shows that The Nutcutters did a big step in songwriting and in arranging songs since their beginning. They no longer fool around - and from a musical point of view - they are more mature: Still, they step on the gas without leaving the melody out of consideration. “We have no illusions what our music concerns. We are too loud, too fast, and too hard for the monotonous mainstream mix of the radio stations and music channels,” says the guitarist Chris, grinning. “In this respect, we don’t give a damn on all these radio stations devoted themselves to the best of seventies, eighties, and nineties and all the hits of the music charts."
The mixture between punk rock that makes one sweat and melodic guitar riffs finds its growing fan community of punks, skaters and hard-drinking friends. “Our concerts are the basis of our growing popularity,” explains the drummer Normen. “On stage, the wheat separates from the chaff, only the ones who can fill the audience with enthusiasm can survive in the long term.” Indeed, The Nutcutters know their business. Their performances are stunning: Their music is full of energy and sweeps the audience away, invites them to dance and mosh. Catchy songs like “Burning Star” will not go out of the mind. In short: The Nutcutters are the living proof that the Swiss punk rock scene is by no means dead but alive and kickin’.
