As it always does, it began at a young age. Chris Jones was in love with his music from a very young age. Coming from a very musical family, being influenced by his mother, who was part of her own Christian band. It was Chris' mother who taught him to read music and play musical instruments.
Chris' interest in sound and music took new heights when he started a sound engineering apprenticeship. At the age of 14 he began to learn the 'ins and outs' of sound effects, acoustical and stage engineering. It was then he decided to add to the sound and started his own rock band at the age of 18, 'The Goteez'.
From there his interests went Electronic. Influences from artists like Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk and The Crystal Method. He began to experiment with recorded sound and samples using 'the computer'. Manipulating sound through technology Chris Jones slowly moved a way from creating a rock sound. Although rock never stopped being his most listened to genre.
In 2003 Chris started recording his new electronic sound in colaboration with his brother. Although not published until 2007, Chris Jones' first album Steadfast Addiction was created over 2003-2004. His brother DJ Roo features two of his own tracks on Steadfast Addiction.
His second album came out the same year, Living the Dreams. It was supposed to be completed by the end of August 2007 but unfortunately because of personal problems at home he was unable to finish the album and decided to call it 'finished'.
It was not until 2005 that Chris returned to his rock roots. It was the singer and founder of the former Dubious Avo, Miles Jacoby, that recruited Chris Jones as the band's Sound Engineer and DJ.
It was in 2005 the Dubious Avo quickly become a very popular band in Cape Town, especially amoungst its student population. The band played along-side such bands as Palms Up, Jules and the Fools and others. It was at the gigs that Chris Jones was able to make his music live for the masses. Sadly, as of Spetember 2007 DUBIOUS AVO have split. You can find more about the mutual break-up of the band on their website.
Chris Jones is currently working on a new 'stash' of music, at the same time as studying at the University of Cape Town, DJing and moving around with rock singer Miles Jacoby (from the former Dubious Avo).
His next work promises to bring a similar sound to his current work, a laid-back electronic music style similar to Ambient music. Downtempo music featuring stronger emphasis on rhythm and beats. However he is also keen on creating some more up beat electronica beats to add to his Nu-Jazz collection. At the moment he is influenced by the South African and International hit GOLD FISH.
Look out for him around Cape Town. You can *** download *** his music from his
